An honest comparison.
Including where we lose.
Most comparison pages are written to make one product win. This one is written so you can decide quickly, even if you decide against us. Here is how NordTell stacks up against the five things people actually weigh it against, what we are good at, and the cases where we are the wrong tool.
NordTell in one table.
Every line here is a fact about the product as it is today, not a plan. Ask any vendor you compare us with for the same table.
| What it is | A platform for AI voice agents that answer and place phone calls: reception, appointment booking, lead qualification, support and outbound campaigns. |
|---|---|
| Where call data lives | Servers inside the European Union. |
| Who builds it | A small team in Copenhagen, Denmark. |
| Languages | About 40. Thirteen of them have built-in safety nets: Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and Turkish. |
| How it thinks and speaks | Three engines you pick per agent: pipeline, speech-to-speech, and hybrid (a realtime voice with a second model checking every reply). Models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, ElevenLabs, Cartesia, Deepgram and others, with the provider shown next to each. |
| Pricing | Per minute of conversation, not per seat or per agent. Launch €29 a month with 60 minutes, Momentum €99 with 200, Authority €299 with 1,000, Empire €899 with 3,500. Extra minutes get cheaper on bigger packages. Prices exclude VAT and are also shown in USD, GBP, DKK, SEK and NOK. |
| Phone numbers | Buy one inside NordTell, or bring your own from Twilio, Telnyx or any SIP provider. |
| Handover to a person | Warm transfer: hold music, dial the colleague, brief them privately, then connect. If nobody answers, the agent returns to the caller. |
| Privacy controls | Recording off, on, or on after the caller consents. Retention in days that you set. An audit log of who changed what. Delete a call, a lead or the whole account yourself. |
| For developers | REST API with scoped keys, signed webhooks, your own HTTP tools and any MCP server. |
| Reselling | White label on the Authority and Empire packages: your brand, your domain, client workspaces. |
| Getting started | A free account to build and test agents in the browser. A package is needed once real calls start. |
What people actually weigh us against.
Not a list of rival logos. These are the five real options in front of most people who call us, and where each one genuinely wins.
vs a human answering service
They win when the calls are emotionally difficult, highly variable, or need judgement a script cannot hold. A skilled person on a grieving family's call is worth more than any agent.
We win when volume is spiky or out of hours, when you want the same answer every time, and when you want the cost to follow usage. An agent picks up on the first ring at 2am and on the fiftieth simultaneous call.
The honest middle: most of our customers keep people for the hard calls and give the agent the repetitive ones. It answers, then warm-transfers anything it should not handle.
vs a phone menu (press 1, press 2)
They win when you truly only need routing to four departments and the menu already works. It is cheap and predictable.
We win when the caller's need does not fit four boxes. People say what they want instead of guessing which number hides it, and the agent can finish the job (book the time, check the order) rather than just move the call.
The honest middle: a menu is not wrong, it is just a very small vocabulary. See phone menus versus voice agents.
vs building it yourself on model APIs
You win when you have engineers, an unusual requirement, and you want to own every layer. The model APIs are public and good.
We win when you would rather not rebuild the boring 90%: telephony and SIP, barge-in, turn-taking, voicemail detection, retries, warm transfer that survives a voicemail, recordings, consent, retention, an audit log, and the per-language phrases that stop an agent claiming it booked something it did not.
The honest middle: if you want the plumbing but your own logic, use our API, webhooks and MCP and keep your brain in your own code.
vs a platform hosted outside the EU
They win when your callers and your data are not in Europe, or when they have a feature you need and we do not. Plenty of them are excellent products.
We win when a European buyer has to answer "where does this data live, who processes it, and can I show that in an audit?" Our answer is short: the EU, the provider is printed next to every model you choose, and recording, retention and deletion are settings you control.
The honest middle: do not take our word for it. Ask any vendor for the hosting region, the list of subprocessors, and a retention setting you can change yourself.
vs paying an agency to build you one
They win when you want someone else to own the whole thing: the prompts, the tuning, the monthly report. That is a real service and worth paying for.
We win when you want to keep the keys. You can change a sentence in the prompt yourself, in plain words, without a change request.
The honest middle: many agencies build on NordTell and resell it under their own name with white label. If you would rather buy the service than the software, ask us and we will point you at one. That is not a sales trick; it is often the better fit.
When NordTell is the wrong choice.
If one of these is you, we would rather say so now than after you have paid us.
You need a language we do not speak
We cover about forty. If yours is not one of them, no amount of prompt writing fixes that.
You need it on your own servers
NordTell is a hosted product in the EU. We do not ship a self-hosted or on-premise version.
You get five calls a month
A phone in a pocket is cheaper and simpler. Come back when the phone starts interrupting the work.
You want someone to run it for you
We are self-serve with real support, not a managed service. One of our agency partners may be the better answer.
Your key system has no API
The agent can only look things up where there is something to call. No API and no export usually means no live lookup.
You need the lowest possible price at huge scale
At very large volumes a direct carrier and model contract can beat any platform's minute price. Ask us and we will tell you honestly where that line sits.
Six questions worth asking any vendor.
Including us. If a vendor cannot answer these in a sentence each, that is the answer.
Where does the call data live?
A country, not a region marketing name. Ours: the European Union.
Which models touch the call?
You should be able to see and choose them. Ours are listed with their provider in the agent editor.
What happens when the agent cannot help?
Ask to see the handover. Ours holds the caller, briefs a colleague, and comes back if nobody answers.
Can I keep my phone number?
Ask before you sign. Ours: bring it from Twilio, Telnyx or any SIP provider.
What exactly am I billed for?
Seats, agents, minutes, or all three? Ours: minutes of conversation, and each call shows its cost.
How do I leave?
Ask how to export calls and delete everything. Ours: export from the dashboard, delete an account yourself.
The longer version, with the reasoning behind each question: twelve questions to ask before you buy voice AI. Already built agents elsewhere? See switching from Retell, VAPI or Famulor.
Straight answers.
What is NordTell?
A platform for AI voice agents that answer and place phone calls for a business: reception, appointment booking, lead qualification, customer support and outbound campaigns. It is built in Copenhagen, Denmark, and runs on servers inside the European Union.
What are the alternatives to NordTell?
A human answering service, a traditional phone menu, building your own agent on model APIs, a voice-AI platform hosted outside the EU, or paying an agency to build and run one for you. Each of those wins in a specific case, and this page says which.
How much does NordTell cost?
You pay for minutes of conversation, not per seat or per agent. Launch is €29 a month with 60 minutes included, Momentum €99 with 200, Authority €299 with 1,000 and white label, Empire €899 with 3,500. Extra minutes are cheaper on larger packages. Prices exclude VAT and are shown in EUR, USD, GBP, DKK, SEK and NOK.
Is NordTell GDPR compliant?
NordTell is built to be used in a GDPR-compliant way: it runs in the EU, recording can require consent, retention is a number of days you set, everything is deletable, and every change is logged. Compliance is a property of how you use it, so we give you the settings and name every model provider; we do not claim a certification we do not hold.
Which languages does NordTell speak?
About forty. Thirteen have built-in safety nets, which are the fallback lines and the phrases that mean "transfer me" or "goodbye" written per language: Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and Turkish. The agent can switch language mid-call when the caller does.
Can I use my existing phone number?
Yes. Bring a number from Twilio, Telnyx or any SIP provider with a short import wizard, or buy a new one inside NordTell.
Does the agent tell people it is an AI?
Yes, in its greeting, in every language. It also never says it completed something a tool has not confirmed, and it always keeps a route to a person.
Can agencies resell NordTell?
Yes. The Authority and Empire packages include the white-label platform: your logo, colours and domain, with each client in their own locked workspace.
Then let us show you, not tell you.
Join the waiting list and we will build your first agent with you, in your language.
